I'm still tweaking but, as you all well know, that could go on for a very long time... so here it is...
I'm only showing one before picture because it actually pains me now to look at how ugly it was for so long. If you want to see more check out my prior post here
For me.... the pendant lights (made by Allen & Roth ) are the crowning glory. We had to install conversion kits to go from recessed to pendant lighting but the effort and expense was worth it.
We gave the counter a more finished look by painting and installing maple corbels we bought at Lowe's. Now we're on the hunt for new stools which is proving to be quite the challenge.
When I spotted this "Catch a Wave" sign at Home Goods I knew right then it was going to set the tone for a beachy theme for our kitchen
We kept the same cabinet handles and draw pulls but had to replace the overlay-type antique brass hinges with white ones and ended up having to special order them from Hardware World as none of the big box stores carried them in white
Again, the lights!! And... the insides of them are a white enamel which gives off a nice bright light. We also put them on a dimmer switch so we have lighting options.
And this picture I bought at TJ Maxx had almost the exact green in it - the frame was black before I painted it white and distressed it a bit
Very fresh and airy now, Diane! It turned out great! Yes, I'm sure there is always tweaking to be done. : ) I have very similar oak cabinets to yours and would have loved to paint them, but with the house on the market I'm just leaving them alone. I'm hoping for pretty white in the next house!
ReplyDeleteDiane, I LOVE it! I painted my oak cabinets a creamy white and have NOT regretted it a bit!!
ReplyDeleteSOOOOOO pretty! Love those lights!!
Great job!

Spectacular transformation Diane!! I love it all, especially the beach touches. And I can totally relate to your last comment. Wish meals would cook themselves in our kitchen.
ReplyDeleteLove those corbels under your counter, too! Good luck finding stools.

Your kitchen looks amazing! What a huge difference! I felt the same way when I went from maple to white. I could breathe and be happy in there finally. I love what you did with the window and I think the crocheted valance is perfect.
ReplyDeleteWOW what a transformation Diane!! LOVE IT! You can come and paint mine now! I would do it, but since you have already done it you know all the tricks etc. LOL Did you spray the paint on or brush it??
ReplyDeleteBlessings~
It looks amazing! I had a cabinet makeover a couple of months ago and just LOVE the difference that the white makes vs. oak or wood-tone. You can check out my makeover (if you haven't already seen it)

I've been wanting to hang a chandelier above the sink, but have recessed lighting...thanks for the idea about the converter kit - I was wondering how I could make that happen! : )
...oh Diane!!!!
ReplyDeletelove, Love, LOOOOVE your make over!!
the paint color, the silver accents, the beachyness...

That's it!!! I am PAINTING my ugly builders cabinets! You have given me the inspiration I need to take this bold step. Thank you so very much....I found your blog link from http://beachcomber26.blogspot.com. So very happy I did. Patty
ReplyDeleteIt looks so lovely! Very crisp and clean:) I love your beadboard around the counter! I know what you mean about stools, it's so hard finding just the right ones. I'm using some hand me downs from my MIL that I painted white but they're far from my dream stools!
ReplyDeleteYou did a wonderful job!!!
OMG....I absolutely love it!!
ReplyDeleteYou did a beautiful job...the lights are the perfect finishing touch!!
i love it! what a difference! i know how much work it is to paint kitchen cupboards as we took that on a few years ago.....what really got to us was all the sanding. yikes. it looks really great!
ReplyDeleteerin
You must be so happy! This is a jewel!
ReplyDeleteLOOOVE your 'new' kitchen..what a difference white paint makes. all your little touches in there are gorgeous!

Your kitchen is my newest inspiration!!! It is exactly what we want to do with ours. When we bought our home new four years ago we knew we would paint the oak cabinets throughout the house white one day. We are getting closer to being able to. I want your 'catch a wave' sign!!!! It looks so perfect where you hung it. I really love everything you've done...and you made it sound so easy. Did you have to sand down all the cabinets first? Your pendant lights are the main attraction for sure...just gorgeous. I actually like the softness of those white curtains but would maybe change to sheer white or a soft grey linen. Lovely loveliness. ox I'm so happy for you.
ReplyDeletewow..what a transformation!! you must be giddy over it all? it's AWESOME!!
ReplyDeleteHave you thought about painting your barstool chairs a grey? When I went to get the white paint, the greys jump out at me. I am going to paint one white and one grey and see what we like best. I may sand and mix white and grey for a driftwood look. But I think white or black would look great in your kitchen. My husband wanted me to ask you what your process was...did you sand first, did you spray or hand paint? Thanks for any tips!
ReplyDeleteHi Diane! I absolutely love your new kitchen makeover! It's so bright and fresh! I LOVE THE LIGHTS! You have such a unique talent for decorating! ENJOY!
ReplyDeleteOh....and I personally love the curtains too! They look beautiful and I think they are perfect for Summer.
Hugs, Sheryl

Hello Diane!
ReplyDeleteYour blog is wonderful! So glad you stopped by, because now I get to watch another blogger transform her house into her dream home.
Your kitchen is beautiful! I painted our cupboards a couple of years ago, and it started me on the journey to changing everything to white.
Blessings.
Debbie
Oh this looks fabulous!
ReplyDeletePerfect example why you can and should paint those "old" oak cabs. Love it.
What a gorgeous makeover! I love white cabinets!
ReplyDeleteMichelle
WOW....such inspirtion. My kitchen is all wood and I have been wanting to paint it white for O so long..The truth is I'm not game...But seeing yours I am thinking I will bite the bullet and paint....I love your blog and have just came accross it...
ReplyDeleteMandy
Wow! I love your kitchen revamp! It's stunning!
ReplyDeleteI have dark wood in my home, and dark granite countertops - I actually love my kitchen, but sometimes I wonder what it would be like to have a white kitchen. I'll just have to live vicariously through yours - our house is only 2 years old, so there is no way that we can justify the expense of changing everything up now.
